Marist connection provided basis for 3 Samoan pilgrims to WYD

WYD Coordinator for Christchurch Diocese, Edmund le Grelle, organised the manufacture of embroidered badges for his diocese, which were sold to pilgrims and supporters prior to WYD.  The proceeds from the sale of these badges went to supporting three young pilgrims from Samoa get to Sydney.

Edmund has an uncle who is a Marist Brother teaching in Apia, Samoa, and who selected three worthy young pilgrims from his parish to receive.  (Samoa sent over 700 people to WYD).

At the final events at Randwick, Edmund was sleeping in the same area as a group of Samoans.  By coincidence, so were the three Samoan pilgrims!  Edmund is shown with two of these young men, twin brothers Lionel and Ritchie Fido.  Lionel and the third pilgrim are both pre-seminarians.

Belgique Badges is Edmund's badge-making business.
